In large part this is to help compare the self with others to see if s/he is “normal”. Some things are safe to share and compare with friends and others are not. Therapy allows an individual to explore different options in a safe and confidential environment. This allows the client decide what is best for him/her. It takes courage to be your true self. It may mean admitting that you are different from those closest to you. This places us at risk of being rejected and hurt or being loved and liked for you really are.
